R27 Discovery Miles 270 Ships in 10 - 20 working days

Lynn Shelton directs this US comedy starring Keira Knightley, Chloë Grace Moretz and Sam Rockwell. Though Megan (Knightley) is 28 years old, an age when many women would be looking to settle down, she remains young at heart - to the extent that she flees when her boyfriend Anthony (Mark Webber) proposes to her. Informing the bewildered Anthony that she will be away at a conference for the next week, Megan instead seeks refuge with 14-year-old Annika (Moretz). The opportunity to relive her adolescence through hanging out with Annika and her friends clearly appeals to Megan, but will her growing relationship with the girl's father, Craig (Rockwell), force her to face reality at last?

Collective Securitisation and Security Governance in the European Union (Paperback): Sonia Lucarelli, James Sperling, Mark... Collective Securitisation and Security Governance in the European Union (Paperback)

R1,261 Discovery Miles 12 610 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Collective Securitisation and Security Governance in the European Union presents an integrated theory of collective securitisation - a theoretical foundation for explaining how the process of collective securitisation sustains and makes effective an identifiable system of regional security governance. The volume demonstrates the empirical utility of collective securitisation in the EU security space through a set of structured case studies focusing on the collective securitisation of terrorism, cyberspace, migration, energy, health and climate change. The contributions to this collection address three questions: Under what conditions does collective securitisation occur? How does collective securitisation affect the scope and domains of EU security governance? And how does collective securitisation explain the emergence of the EU system of security governance? This volume breaks new ground in the field of EU security studies and provides a theoretical orientation that contributes to our understanding of how and why the EU has developed as a security actor in the 21st century. Developing and testing the theory of collective securitisation with reference to some of the most pressing contemporary security issues, Collective Securitisation and Security Governance in the European Union will be of great interest to scholars of the European Union and Security Studies. The chapters were originally published as a special issue of West European Politics.

Theorising NATO - New perspectives on the Atlantic alliance (Paperback): Mark Webber, Adrian Hyde-Price Theorising NATO - New perspectives on the Atlantic alliance (Paperback)
Mark Webber, Adrian Hyde-Price
R1,476 Discovery Miles 14 760 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Scholarship on NATO is often preoccupied with key episodes in the development of the organisation and so, for the most part, has remained inattentive to theory. This book addresses that gap in the literature. It provides a comprehensive analysis of NATO through a range of theoretical perspectives that includes realism, liberalism and constructivism, and lesser-known approaches centred on learning, public goods, securitisation and risk. Focusing on NATO's post-Cold War development, it considers the conceptualisation, purpose and future of the Alliance. This book will be of interest to students and scholars of international organisation, international relations, security and European Politics.

Theorising NATO builds upon a range of theoretic perspectives to analyze the work of NATO, and its relationship to the European Union. In doing so, it addresses a gap in IR scholarship, allowing the reader to interpret the work of NATO.

The book takes into account pluralist theoretic approaches, including tradition modes of realism, liberalism and constructivism, as well as newer approaches such as securitisation and risk. It focuses on how NATO 's post-Cold War development might be understood and explained, thus considering the conceptualisation, purpose and future of the Alliance.

Theorising NATO will be of interest to students and scholars of International Organisation, International Relations and European Politics.

Foreign Policy In A Transformed World (Hardcover): Mark Webber, Michael Smith Foreign Policy In A Transformed World (Hardcover)
Mark Webber, Michael Smith
R4,857 Discovery Miles 48 570 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

For 2nd and 3rd year courses in international politics and foreign policy. This text examines foreign policy in relation to 'change and transformation.' It discusses traditional assumptions about foreign policy and foreign policy making, and develops a framework to facilitate analysis of the challenges faced by foreign policy makers in the late 1990s. The central elements of the framework are the foreign policy arena, decision-making and implementation. The book then applies the framework to a set of regional case studies, to explore the global and regional arenas and the challenges to which they give rise. Finally, specific case studies of two countries per region highlight the range of impacts for the changing global and regional context, to focus on the analysis of decision-making and implementation, and to illustrate the benefits of comparative analysis.

Inclusion, Exclusion and the Governance of European Security (Hardcover): Mark Webber Inclusion, Exclusion and the Governance of European Security (Hardcover)
Mark Webber
R1,943 Discovery Miles 19 430 Out of stock

How inclusive are NATO and the EU? The enlargement of both organisations seems to give some substance to the vision of a 'Europe whole and free' articulated at the Cold War's end. Yet more recently enlargement's limits have increasingly come to be recognised bringing with it an important debate on the balance to be struck between inclusion and exclusion. This book examines that sometimes awkward balance. Its analytical starting point is the characterisation of much of Europe as a security community overlain by a system of security governance. The boundary of this system is neither clear nor fixed but a dynamic of inclusion and exclusion can be said to exist by reference to its most concrete expression - that of institutional enlargement. On this basis, the book offers an elaboration of the concept of security governance itself, complemented by a historical survey of the Cold War and its end, the post-Cold War development of NATO and the EU, and case studies of two important 'excluded' states - Russia and Turkey.
